Little Mermaid Nails w/Pony Chops

Long before I discovered Chantal and the blog Pony Chops, I discovered her Etsy shop. I loved her adorable paintings on shoes and have had them favorited in my Etsy forever. Her blog has just made me love her and her work anymore. I jumped on the idea for a nail art guest post because her nail art is seriously adorable, and I love following her tutorials!

Hi Guys! My name is Chantal, and I blog over at PonyChops. When Katherine asked me to do a Disney themed guest post I jumped at the chance. I grew up on Disney movies (in fact, I'm still growing up on Disney movies at age 25). To me, Disney films were so inspiring, full of color, pattern and beautiful illustration.

My all time favorite Disney character is Ariel, partly because she has kick ass hair, but mostly because I'm a bit of a pattern obsessive, and I've always been inspired by the pattern on scaly mermaid tails.

So, I decided to make a tutorial on mermaid scale nails!

Firstly, you will need to pick your colours. I would suggest at least 4 blueish/greenish colors (one for the base, 3 for scales) with at least 1 glitter nail polish. You will also need a bobby pin to create the little scales.

I used: Barry M Spring green, Blueberry, Cyan Blue, Turquoise (base colour), Blue glitter & Models Own Mirrorball gold, I Love NP Little Mermaid

1. Paint your base colour, I used Barry M Turquoise. Add another layer or two if necessary.

2. Once your base colour is dry, add your glitter coat. I used Models Own Mirrorball Gold and I Love NP Little Mermaid. You only need one or two coats. Make sure your nails are fully dry before you go on to the next step.

3. Get your bobby pin and dip into your scale colours, layer up little dots until you have a scale effect on your nails.

4. Once all your "scales" are dry, add a final clear coat. And there you go! Simple mermaid inspired nails, perfect for fancy dress or if you just want something a little different.

Handy hint #1, Turquoise looks awesome with baby pink, why not add a couple of baby pink nails to compliment your turquoise scales?

Handy hint #2, Experment with different colours of glitter, I've found gold glitter adds a luxurious look to the scales.

  10. I'm also grown up with disney movies (all saturdays of my childhood!) and at the age 24 I still grow with them... and I think I'm more happy for that! They have a magic that now others have!

Such adorable nails! Once I have a nail polish much like the NP Little Mermaid, I'm gonna do some Little Mermaid nails :D (altough my favorite princess is Beauty)
