Revised Flu Cocktail

he Flu Cocktail

I have been feeling awful lately - coughing, stuffy nose, the whole works. Not the flu, thank goodness, but still, unable to sleep well! I wanted to make the old fashioned flu cocktail, but only had limited ingredients. Here's my play on the bourbon/ginger/citrus cocktail from the good old days.

What You'll Need
1 Shot Sweet/Sour Concentrated Mix (I love the concentrate stuff, I use it 'wrong' but it works better this way, promise. Don't mix it with water)
1 Shot Bourbon (Marker's Mark, Woodford Reserve, something good and from Kentucky is preferable)
1/2 Shot Ginger Liqueur
1/2 Shot Orange Brandy Liqueur
Glass with 4 ice cubes

he Flu Cocktail

Pour the above amounts into a glass (you only need one shot glass, I use four for photos only) over ice, starting with the sweet and sour.

he Flu Cocktail

Swirl well. It should separate in layers. You will want to stir with a straw or spoon before drinking most likely. Serve and clear your head! It's sour, strong, and quite yummy!

  5. You should really stay off alcohol and sugar of all kinds when you are unwell - they really weaken your immune system and make any illness last longer.
A raw veg and fruit juice with some fresh ginger and pinch of turmeric would work wonders on the other hand.
    Get well!

  6. I'm with flu! It's horrible... and such an headache! Here in Portugal you have an saying "abifa-te, avinha-te e abafa-te". It cannot be translate, but the essential is eat well, drink well (a little bit of wine to give you strength and a little warm) and to get well dressed and protected from cold. And we have an old recipe called " Queimadinha" that is nothing more than brown sugar, sugar-cane rum, peel from a lemon. Set that in fire, tu burn the alcool, and drink it really hot, and then get yourself in the bed. It will warm you, and make you sweat, but it will make you better :)

  7. You caught it too? I'm sorry. The flu is especially bad this year, though I'm not sure why. My sister gave me the flu while we were in Hawaii, and it was so annoying. I can't offer any remedies of my own (nor can I drink vodka as I'm only seventeen haha), but I hope you feel better soon. (:

  14. This sounds so good for when you feel yucky! Much better than chugging half a bottle of cough syrup.
